The guys over at pokertime contacted us a while back about running "sponsorship" for our site. We have had a few chat's to them but this quirky little TV ad of theirs had us in hysterics. Obviously they have a sense of humor, which in our humble opinion is quite a valued asset in the poker business.
Any hoo, checkout the review and advert in the youtube video below.
Keep in mind that this is a tournament-style poker game so you should have a long-term strategy. It doesn't matter if you win the most hands. The way to win is to be the last person at the table. You don't have to play out every hand or even the majority of hands. Better poker players calculate the odds and fold quickly if the odds are not in their favor. For the majority of hands, a good player will fold before the flop. Don't be afraid to fold and you shouldn't start betting haphazardly if you've won a few hands.
Nicky Hilton scored in Las Vegas over the weekend at the poker table!
Spyonvegas.com, captured the blow-by-blow, as Nicky took down each player -- one at a time -- at the celebrity poker tournament at Luxor. Several of Jeff Beacher's Madhouse Oompa Loompas were there to cheer her on, along with her poker-powerhouse boyfriend David Katzenberg.
Hilton, who co-owns "Company" in Vegas along with Nick Lachey and Wilmer Valderrama, partied with them afterward in a big way.
POKER has a celebrity face. Says American actor and game show host Drew Carey: “Maybe Dallas wouldn’t be ranked as the 34th most dangerous city in America if Dallas police weren’t devoting precious resources to raiding friendly poker games played by veterans.”
Carey is speaking in Reason magazine. “In his latest video for Reason.tv, Drew Carey examines a paramilitary-style raid on a poker game at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1837 in Dallas, which has now been forced to close its doors.”
Says Carey: “Poker is about as American as baseball and apple pie. It was born here in America. Mark Twain loved it. He’s a great American. Until recently, Supreme Court justices had a monthly game. They’re great Americans. You’d think playing poker in a VFW hall would be about as American as anything you could do.”
The Oxford Encyclopedia of Food and Drink notes: “As a favoured dish of the English, pies were baked in America as soon as the early settlers set up housekeeping on dry land.”
As for Baseball, that’s a British game of rounders, albeit with big gloves and spitting.
Which leaves poker, a card game adapted from French, Persian and British card games.
Cary makes a, er, good point. Poker is an American game, albeit one you cannot play online.
As one legendary American put it: “The British are coming.” And we’re bringing poker.
Bottom dealing is a method of illegally influencing the outcome of a poker game and other card games by way of dealing from the bottom, rather than the top, of the card deck. A bottom dealer may sneak a peek at the bottom card of the deck just after or during the cut or place selected cards at the bottom of the deck. With the knowledge of that card in mind, he can deal the card to himself or a confederate to help his or his confederate's hand, or deal it to someone else if he knows the card will not help the opponent (thereby preventing the opponent from improving his hand).
